City Opera Vancouver will be performing Sunday With Sondheim in Maple Ridge on April 7.
Stephen Sondheim is considered by many to have been Broadway’s greatest composer and lyricist. His accolades include Tony Awards, GRAMMY Awards, Academy and Golden Globe Awards, to name a few. Beloved musicals such as Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, Company, and Gypsy are just some of Sondheim’s greatest creations.
City Opera Vancouver celebrates Sondheim with these works, exploring the theme of love through his music.
The performance journeys audiences through a typical relationship cycle – exploring the highs, lows, and in-betweens. From the fairytale idea of love to discovering what love is, to meeting that special someone and doubting what could be, to the unexpected wars and breakups that sometimes end in reconciliation, the show aims to capture the authenticity of relationships through melodic theatre.
Featuring 24 iconic songs from 13 legendary musicals, the 90-minute performance will be offered on April 7 at 3 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre.
