Maple Ridge's Paws cause raises $13K
Animal lovers of all ages converged on the Albion Fairgrounds Sunday to raise money and awareness to improve animal welfare in the province.
Around 109 dogs and their owners and animal lovers of all sorts took part in the annual Scotiabank and BC SPCA Paws for a Cause walk.
Almost $13,000 was raised at the event with money still coming in.
Mark Vosper, manager of the Maple Ridge branch of the SPCA, was pleased with the event’s success, but emphasized that donations are still welcome.
“It was a really good day actually compared to last year, when we had the severe heat,” said Vosper. “We had more people actually on the field after the walk.”
However, more funds will be needed to match or exceed last year’s total.
Top fundraiser this year was Roxanne Jones, who raised $1,060. Top youth fundraiser was Cassidy Penney, who raised $475. Top fundraising team was Happy Tails Training, which raised $680.
Thirty-five volunteers helped make the day a success by helping out in the raffle, selling baked goods and organizing the dog competitions like the fastest bowl licker, the dog with the waggiest tail, and the dog most like its owner.
