Fireworks ban will be enforced in Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows
With Halloween fast approaching, fire departments remind residents that fireworks bans will be strictly enforced in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge.
Fireworks and firecrackers will be confiscated and offenders, including minors, will face fines.
“One firecracker could easily cause a massive fire and extensive property damage and serious injury can result,” said Pitt Meadows assistant fire chief Brad Perrie.
In August, two homes in Maple Ridge were damaged by a fire sparked by fireworks. Only a licensed and trained pyrotechnician can apply for a permit to hold a fireworks show and it may only be held on private property.
Most residential homes in both municipalities do not have sufficient space between structures to meet the conditions required for a permit to be issued, and fireworks may not be used on any public property, including roads, parks, sports fields, school property, trails or any other public area.
