With Glowing Hearts in Maple Ridge
Remembrance Day is a time to reflect, to think about the sacrifices made in times of conflict, and to be thankful for the freedoms we enjoy.
Join the Band of the Fifteenth Field Regiment in a concert to honour those sacrifices.
The Band of the Fifteenth Field Regiment has presented With Glowing Hearts during Remembrance Week since 2009.
The 2012 series is themed "Bernstein's Broadway" and will feature music from and inspired by shows from when his music filled the air in New York City's entertainment district. The highlight of the performance will be the debut of a new transcription of Leonard Bernstein's popular Suite from West Side Story, drawn from music of the original Broadway show.
This year, the band is pleased to salute members of the Canadian Forces with a new arrangement of Canadian country artist Johnny Reid's hit Today, I'm Gonna Try and Change the World.
This year, the Band of the Fifteenth Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery will participate in a unique event to honour Canadian soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan.
The event will be held on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Walk to Remember, located in the Derek Doubleday Arboretum in the 21200 block of 56 Avenue in Langley.
Featuring a tree lined pathway, a commemorative structure, and viewing decks, the Walk to Remember was the vision of Langley sister and brother Elizabeth and Michael Pratt.
Elizabeth, who is in university, and Michael, who is in grade 11, formed Langley Youth for the Fallen in 2011 to promote their dream of establishing the memorial grove. Through sponsorships and partnerships with the Township of Langley, Arboretum and Botanical Society of Langley, Rotary clubs, Veterans Affairs Canada, and other community groups, 158 trees are being planted along the Walk – one for every Canadian soldier lost in Afghanistan.
The Walk to Remember Remembrance Day ceremony will also feature the unveiling and dedication of the 16-foot commemorative structure that will list the names of the Canadian soldiers who fell in Afghanistan. A flag will be raised and a fly-past will be conducted by the Fraser Blues formation flying team.
