Ridge dancers win bursaries
Two dancers from Maple Ridge received bursaries from the Association Of International Dance Teachers beating out competitors from across the region for the awards.
Shelby Greaves and Samantha Nelson were selected by this year’s examiner who travelled from South Africa to evaluate dancers in Canada.
The Association Of International Dance Teachers offers an annual bursary programme, which enables students to further their studies.
Each year the examiner awards two bursaries to a modern/jazz student and a tap student who achieves a high level of dance and performance in their exam.
Greaves, 16, stood out amongst advanced grade dancers doing their modern/jazz exams in the Lower Mainland.
Nelson, 14, competed in the modern/jazz intermediate grade. Both girls train at CentreStage Dance and directors Shannon Pouznar and Courtny Thane could not be more proud of their achievements.
This year, Pouznar also became Canada’s very first examiner and was sent to South Africa to examine the dancers there.
CentreStage Dance also visited Disney Land in July where over 30 dancers performed and took part in workshops.
