Joy and whimsy in watercolour
The Garibaldi Art Club hosts an intermediate watercolour weekend workshop with world renowned artist Alex Fong at the end of the month.
Fong has developed a personal style that has since become his hallmark. His paintings are a kaleidoscope of light and colour – a bouquet of wonder and whimsy, says Lyn Thomas with the Garibaldi Art Club.
The sense of delight that accompanies the Okanagan artist’s work draws the viewer in for a closer look. His translucent, impressionistic paintings are distinguished by a parade of coloured flecks that he calls “confetti” which represent his celebration of life. The result is an exquisite balance of spontaneity and grace. Though Fong’s artistic vision continues to evolve, his works reflect a fresh and youthful outlook.
Fong will be demonstrating his watercolour techniques to create bold, beautiful, translucent watercolour while assisting participants with their watercolour technique at a two-day workshop Sept. 28 and 29.
The Garibaldi Art Club was formed in 1959 by a group of artists who got together in their homes to paint.
Since then, the group has met in the Albion community centre and at various municipal locations.
The club hosts many community art workshops and played a significant role in raising money for The ACT.
Many of the club members have also contributed their art on the walls of the Maple Ridge municipal hall main entrance.
• Alex Fong’s workshop costs $185 and will take place at the ACT. For more information, call Lyn Thomas at 604-462-8380.
