The Garibaldi Art Club is hosting its 57th Fall Show and Sale.

More than 200 original pieces will be for sale by 50 members of the club, from ceramics to cards and unframed matted pieces.

“We have so many different types of paintings, from the traditional landscapes to abstract work and everything in between,” said artist Suzette Fram, who will have six acrylics for sale.

Mixed media artist Liz Boulton will have four of her pieces at the show.

Two of them, called Memories of an August Garden Nos. 1 and 3, were painted in her backyard.

“I was just really painting feelings,” said Boulton.

“Trying to capture the humidity and the environment of the time. Trying to create humidity, if you can create that,” she laughed.

Boulton used a combination of pastels and acrylics along with tar gel and glazes to add layers and depth to the images.

Subdued grays, blues and greens cover the canvas with touches of vivid colours highlighting red leaves, purple flowers and yellow dragonflies.

“They are vibrant, but muted like August is.”

Boulton was always trying to capture a feeling through her art work, even as a child.

But she only started focussing on her art over the last eight years, experimenting with pastels and woodworking.

“The only thing I haven’t tried is pottery. But I’ve pretty much tried everything and enjoy everything,” said Boulton.

“I like to paint and convey the feel of the atmosphere rather than a perfect looking picture,” she said.

Boulton has been a member of the Garibaldi Art Club for three years. This will be her third fall show.

“It’s nice to be in an environment where you understand each other,” she said.

“There are a lot of new people in the club, so I can guarantee a lot of variety in the show,” Boulton added.

Admission is free to the show.

“We just want people to come and enjoy the work,” said Fram.
