The ACT Arts Centre is hunting for a new executive and artistic director after Lindy Sisson announced she will be leaving the position at the end of June.

Sisson will become the interim general manager at the Port Threatre in Nanaimo after a stellar eight-year run as the ACT’s director.

While she called her current role a great opportunity, she is looking forward to a new experience on Vancouver Island.

“This position has been a terrific challenge and a very rewarding experience that stretched my capabilities,” Sisson said in a release. “I’d like to thank the ACT patrons for their trust in my programming and all the ACT team and partners for their support over the years.”

Board of directors president Korleen Carreras said Sisson has been wonderful in building the ACT’s reputation and was pivotal in growing the centre’s membership, as well as donors and sponsors.

“While it is difficult to see Lindy go, we wish her nothing but the very best,” Carreras said.

Sisson’s leadership and organization were praised, as well as her ability to develop the organization’s artistic mandate and programming. Her career in the arts has spanned 30 years, but her run with the ACT may be among her finest work. She worked extensively with community organizations, as well as the Katzie First Nation, to develop engaging projects. She’s also spent time with the Vancouver International Children’s Festival and was named an Outstanding Champion of the Arts in BC Schools and Communities in 2012.

The process of hiring her replacement will “begin immediately.”
