Dear Editor,

I fully agree with the stated concerns, but I would add an equally important point.
Property values have skyrocketed since 2017. It seems the city believes the taxpayer income has increased similarly.
Sadly, not.
The taxpayer does not have a bottomless pocket.
The city says we can defer our property tax. This is not always true. I was in line to pay my property taxes, when the elderly man in front of me asked for a deferral and was told he had “already reached his limit.”
Would you agree this is a time for fiscal restraint at city hall?
Major expenses, such as aquatic centre and skating rink, should be put on hold and when the financial situation improves, they should go to a referendum.
For environmental and financial reasons, keep Hammond Park as it is.
