The Maple Ridge Choral Society is doubling its number of concerts this spring, with the first one kicking off tonight at 7 p.m.
Not only will there be more performances, but they will also take place in new venues as well, explained MRCS president Thyra Gillese.
“We are very proud of the growth the choir has seen, in both members and audience size,” said Gillese. “The choir works incredibly hard to learn these beautiful pieces, so we’re excited to offer two concerts this spring to share our love of singing with a larger audience.”

The concerts will feature a theme of beauty and hope and will include works by Elaine Hagenberg, Timothy C. Takach, and Kim Andre Arnesen.
MRCS artistic director Frank Zieginson said that he wanted the spring concerts to encapsulate the feeling of finding beauty even when there appears to be none.
“When planning this program, I was sitting with all the war, violence, hurt, and pain we see happening both in our lives and in the world around us,” said Zieginson. “I was interested in exploring how we can, despite all the darkness, find the light, the hope, and the beauty in the world and in ourselves.”
