Big Box Outlet is returning to Maple Ridge with a new store in Haney Place Mall.

The retailer will have a new 8,000 square foot store near the mall’s southeast entrance, in space that was recently occupied by the COVID-19 vaccination clinic.

The plan is to open this Sunday, March 10, and on Friday staff members were busy stocking shelves and setting up the new location.

The company has been in an expansion phase, and over the last 18 months has grown from 11 locations to where Maple Ridge will be the 17th. Most are in B.C., but they also have five stores in Alberta.

“We love Maple Ridge – we’ve got a loyal customer base there,” said general manager Jon Mackie, who is based in Abbotsford.

The company had a location on Dewdney Trunk Road downtown, which was displaced by the ERA Maple Ridge development.

“For a long time, that was one of our most profitable stores,” said Mackie. “We’re excited to be back there.”

Those familiar with the store know is sells clothing, appliances, furniture, household items and a range of products. They market reverse logistics products, including some returns from other retailers, which are then inspected, tested, and sold at discounted prices. Their website shows their latest products include the Street Fighter 6 Xbox game, Dr. Who on Blue Ray, sunglasses, boots, and laptops.

Mackie noted that the Haney Place Mall is also scheduled for some redevelopment, but said it offered the best possible location for a new store in the city.

The new arrival reverses a trend that has seen numerous businesses leave the mall, and there are about 12 spaces for lease in the store now.

Lorval developments acquired the mall near the end of 2021, and announced they would redevelop Haney Place to add apartments and underground parking.
