The goals were hard to come by for the three Ridge Meadows lacrosse teams in this year’s Burrards Barn Burner Midget Tournament.

While the Midget A2 team advanced all the way to the finals before winning a silver medal, the A1 and B teams struggled in the round robin portion of the tournament and played consolation games on Sunday morning. The A2 team lost a closely fought defensive battle, falling 3-1 to the Kamloops Rattlers.

The A1 club went 1-3, while the A2 team finished won two and tied one before losing the gold game.

A2 head coach Ron Williams said a successful weekend sets his team up well for the remaining portion of the regular season. The club went 1-6-1 in eight games of tiering play.

“The weekend went well for us and the competition was good,” Williams said. “Goals are hard to come by, teams are playing pretty defensive and disciplined.”

Standouts for the A2 team were “defensive stalwart” Xavier St. Peters, Nathan Graham and goaltender Tristan Parkin.

The A1 Burrards were narrowly defeated in their Friday night game by the Saanich Tigers 6-5. They bounced back Saturday afternoon with a great performance in a 9-6 win over Langley. They were edged out once again in the final game of group play, losing to Juan de Fuca 5-4.

In a rematch from the previous day, the Langley Thunder were victorious 5-4.

The B team went 1-2-1 but finished on a high note, blanking the Chilliwack Mustangs 7-0. The team struggled at the start of the weekend with two strong teams from Vancouver Island, losing 13-2 to the Saanich Tigers and 10-1 to Juan de Fuca.

A1 head coach Lance Andre was still proud of his team’s before despite some uneven play, and says it let them know where they stood with other A1 teams as regular season play gets underway this week.

All three midget teams play this week, with the A1 team in New Westminster and the A2 team in Mission on Tuesday. The B team played Monday in Chilliwack.again Tuesday against the Semiahmoo Rock.
