Speirs named NDP candidate for next federal vote
Maple Ridge Coun. Craig Speirs will be trying to go from the local stage to the national one after winning the NDP nomination Sunday.
Speirs was competing against pharmacist Elizabeth Rosenau for the right to represent the party in Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge-Mission.
If an election is called, Speirs will be taking on Conservative MP Randy Kamp.
The nomination meeting took place in St. Andrew's United Church.
"Had a great meeting today and somehow or another I became the candidate for Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge-Mission. Wow, I guess retirement life is going to change," Speirs said on Facebook.
Speirs said the meeting had great energy with lots of dedicated members.
Rosenau has said she'll support Speirs during the campaign, if or when an election is called.
