Paul Henderson bringing famous sweater to Maple Ridge
The man who saved Canadian hockey in the 1970s will be in town in April, for a quick chat and photos with his famous sweater.
Paul Henderson scored the winning goal in the Canada-Russia series that took place in 1972. It was the first time Canada's pro players played the best players in what was then the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Canada had fallen behind in the series. Canada was expected to have won the series easily.
Henderson will be in the parking lot in front of Planet Ice on April 3 as part of SmartCentres' Henderson Jersey Homecoming Tour.
SmartCentres owns land in Albion flats where it wants to put up a shopping centre.
The trailer will roll into the parking lot at 11 a.m. on April 3, (Sunday) and remain until 3 p.m. Henderson himself will be there starting at 1 p.m. so people can grab photos and autographs.
"He just wants to meet as many people as possible," said Maple Ridge spokesman Fred Armstrong.
