A Maple Ridge man has been charged with assault in connection with a violent fight that broke out in downtown Vancouver on Sunday.
Police say a melee broke out on 200-block of East Georgia Street around 2:30 a.m. on June 12.
“Witnesses reported seeing the man waving an object in the air just prior to him being allegedly struck and knocked to the ground by a 31-year-old man in the group,” said Vancouver Police spokesperson Const. Jana McGuinness.
The group continued walking down the street, but was stopped by police a short distance away.
The 56-year-old victim suffered a severe head injury and remains in critical condition in hospital.
Joel Robert Goodale of Maple Ridge faces one count of aggravated assault in connection. His next court appearance is Aug. 30.
