Ridge man faces charges for vigilante justice

Police are recommending a charge of assault with a weapon against a Maple Ridge man who meted out vigilante justice to a trio of teenagers on Saturday.

Ridge Meadows RCMP said the 36-year-old suspected the boys of damaging his vehicle around 10 p.m. on McClure Drive in Maple Ridge.  He decided to chased the youths while brandishing a baseball bat.

Cpl. Alanna Dunlop said one of the teens fell while trying to run away and the suspect grabbed and threatened him.

The teen was checked by members of the B.C. Ambulance Service.

The man was arrested, but later released from police custody on condition he has no contact with the teens.

 

Pot bust

More than 1,000 marijuana plants were found by police on Friday after they raided an illegal grow operations.

Police executed a warrant at the property on 224th Street around 8 a.m.

Officers found 1,251 marijuana plants in varying stages of growth inside the house.

No one was home when RCMP served the warrant.

Ridge Meadows RCMP arrested a man Thursday suspected of breaking into a Maple Ridge bike shop.

Police were called to the No Hype bike store on 287th Street around 11:45 a.m. after the store owner caught a man trying to break into his business.

The owner attempted hold the man until police arrived but the man managed to escape and flee.

Police said the man was soon captured by members of Mission RCMP.

He was handed to Ridge Meadows RCMP. Police then linked to a pickup truck which had been reported stolen to Surrey RCMP.

The 49-year-old man was held in custody for a first court appearance on Friday.

 

House bound

A traffic stop on Sunday resulted in the arrest of a man found violating bail conditions.

The 22-year-old was a passenger in a grey car that was stopped by police in the 20600 block of the Lougheed Highway just after 11 p.m. o

Police allege the man lied to the officer about his identity and was supposed to stay at his mother’s residence due to an outstanding court case in Victoria.  As the officer tried to arrest him, the man attempted to flee and struggled.

Police said the man was quickly subdued and taken into custody.

He was scheduled to appear in court Monday on new charges of failing to abide by bail conditions and obstructing a peace officer.
