Maple Ridge man fires paintball gun at Mounties
A 48-year-old man was arrested by police Wednesday evening for allegedly shooting paintball pellets at Mounties in Maple Ridge.
Ridge Meadows RCMP received a call from a house on 124th Avenue around 6 p.m. reporting a man had entered the home and threatened the home owner.
An investigation led officers to the suspect's house but as police approached it, several paint-balls were fired at officers who immediately took cover.
Police then made contact with the man and a friend and he was taken into custody.
“Our officers had great presence of mind in this case," said Staff Sgt. Hector Lee.
"The sounds of a paintball gun, and paintballs hitting is far different than real guns or bullets. They recognized that fact, made sure of their safety and then made their approach and arrest."
No officers were injured and police have seized the paintball gun as well as other weapons.
The man was held in custody overnight for a court appearance on Thursday.
Police are recommending charges of break and enter, uttering threats and possessing weapons.
