Police storm into Maple Ridge house

An early Friday morning police raid in a quiet suburban area woke up the neighbours as police broke through the doors of a home in the 10400-block of Slatford Street.

Judith Betzler was walking her son to Albion school about 8:10 a.m. when she saw a police Chevy Blazer pull up next to her. The vehicle waited until she passed, then two more police cars came around the corner.

"They all got out and drew their weapons. There were officers running around to the side of the house, then they started shouting, 'Police, police.' "

Betzler said it's a quiet neighborhood but there are a few homes where the lawns are unkept, which could be signs of a grow op inside.

Ridge Meadows RCMP's street enforcement unit was expected to be on scene all morning investigating what could be a marijuana-grow operation.
