Sex offender arrested again

A Maple Ridge man awaiting a sentence for sexually assaulting a roommate was arrested by police last week for similar allegations.

Richard Elbertson Richardson appeared in Port Coquitlam Provincial Court on Friday and was remanded in custody.

Police allege Richardson sexually assaulted a 38-year-old man in his Maple Ridge home earlier this month.

“Mr. Richardson is well known to Ridge Meadows RCMP officers,” said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

“He has a criminal record for convictions of similar occurrences, and is on probation for one of those convictions.”

Ridge Meadows RCMP issued a warning about Richardson in 2010 after he was charged with sexual assaulting his roommate.

At that time, police alleged Richardson had been approaching men while traveling on buses and targeting young men, particularly those with mental health issues.

After being charged with sexual assault, Richardson faced additional charges of breaching bail conditions twice. In one instance, police found he had a roommate and in a second, he was caught chatting with a teenage boy at the Haney Bus Loop.

Richardson has a criminal record dating back to the early 1990s.
