A woman was killed early Friday by a train in Maple Ridge.

The fatal collision by a freight train happened around 4:30 a.m. near the Port Haney Station along River Road.

Ridge Meadows RCMP and CP Police have just begun their investigation.

Police said details are still being learned. They are working on identifying the woman.

The investigation shut down the station, causing long lineups at Maple Meadows and Pitt Meadows.

Translink organized shuttle buses to ferry passengers between Port Haney and Maple Meadows.

Spokesperson Derek Zabel thanks all the West Coast Express passengers for being patient.
