Big bank moves out of Maple Ridge's downtown

staff reporter

A major corner of downtown Maple Ridge is now empty after HSBC has moved west.

HSBC moved Oct. 1 from its location on 224th Street and McIntosh Avenue to its new headquarters in a renovated building on 203rd Street.

“We’ve been in Maple Ridge for a long time and we’re committed to staying there,” said Aurora Bonin, senior manager for public affairs for HSBC.

“We’re excited to stay in Maple Ridge. It’s an important place for us.”

Bonin said the layout of the new building will serve customers better and provide more parking and accessibility for the physically challenged.

Some customers like the move to the new location, and some don’t, she added.

She added the bank has been in the district for 25 years.

The move is the latest in the block just south of Dewdney Trunk Road, which has frequent changes in businesses and tenants.
