Three local schools were ordered locked down on Thursday due to two unrelated incidents.

Albion elementary on 240th Street in Maple Ridge was locked down for a short time in the morning while police searched for a man who broke into a business nearby.

Ridge Meadows RCMP were called around 8:30 a.m. after the man was spotted entering a business in the Albion area.

One officer attempted to arrest Clayton Quigley at the scene, but he resisted using physical force to get away, police said.

A police dog was brought in to track the suspect, who fled north towards the Albion sports fields, while RCMP cruisers fanned out across the neighbourhood.

Albion elementary was locked down for 30 minutes as a precaution, in case Quigley tried to enter.

Quigley has several warrants out for his arrest.

He is described as 28 years old, five foot eight, with a red beard. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, green work-style pants and sunglasses. He was also carrying a black backpack.

If you see Mr. Quigley, call 911. Do not attempt to stop or apprehend him.

Meanwhile, Pitt Meadows secondary was locked down Thursday afternoon following a police incident.

Ridge Meadows RCMP reported the lockdown just after noon via its Facebook page and Twitter account.

Police said the students and staff are safe and that the lock down was initiated "for precautionary reasons" following an incident at the high school.

The school reported on its website that the lockdown was due to a police incident in the neighbourhood.

"RCMP are into the preliminary stages of an investigation into possible threats at Pitt Meadows Secondary School," police said.

"A young male suspect, who is not a student, left the school grounds and it was felt to be necessary to lock the school down while police searched for the male.  The student, who is a young offender, is now in police custody.  Shortly after his arrest  the school resumed normal activities."

The lockdown lasted less than an hour.

Pitt Meadows elementary on Harris Road was also locked down for a short time, according to parents.
