Maple Ridge jewellery store robbed
A Maple Ridge jewellery store was robbed at gun point Tuesday afternoon.
Three men entered Hammond Jewellers on Lougheed Highway near 207th Street around 3 p.m. and confronted staff.
Police said the men were wearing disguises and brandished weapons.
They ordered staff to the ground before smashing display cases and stealing a quantity of expensive jewellery.
No one was injured in the incident.
One staff member believes the store hasn't been robbed or held up in 15 years.
Laurie Davey, who owns the store with her husband Dave, said the robbery was extremely frightening for staff.
"It was a traumatic event but everybody seems to be hanging in there," she said.
Davey's husband was at the store when the robbery took place. She was called to the store after the robbery.
"When I got here, the police were already here and there was glass everywhere," she added.
Ridge Meadows RCMP said the investigation is in the early stage.
Police have viewed a surveillance video, and are looking for a light coloured SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer or Expedition, that the suspects got into before driving off.
Ridge Meadows RCMP are also speaking to other RCMP detachments and municipal police forces to see if any similar robbery have taken place elsewhere.
