Weather record for Pitt Meadows
The temperature soared to a summer-like 32.3 C on Wednesday, setting a new Sept. 11 temperature record for the area.
The previous high for the day was 29.9 C, set in 2011.
Tuesday was also unseasonably warm, with a high of 27.5 C at the Pitt Meadows Airport, and the warm weather is expected to continue, with a high of 27 C today and 29 C on Saturday.
The weatherman says it is not unusual to see summertime extended into September in the Fraser Valley.
“We often get ridges this time of year, but this one is particularly strong and long-lived,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist.
He said a cold front is moving in on Sunday, when the temperature will drop to 24 C, and then there is rain and lower temperatures forecast for the rest of next week.
“…returning us to more typical fall-like weather.”
