Sex assaults prompt patrols near Albion
Ridge Meadows RCMP have increased patrols in a neighbourhood near Albion where two women were sexually assaulted on trails.
Marked police cars have been canvassing the neighbourhood, asking residents to report suspicious men or strangers lurking in the area.
RCMP said in addition to the uniformed police officers and more foot patrols, there are cops undercover.
Local residents are welcoming the police presence as women have been on edge since the attacks.
The latest assault took place Nov. 26, around 5 p.m. near McLure Drive and 240th Street.
A woman was grabbed by the man who had his face covered. She was sexually assaulted on the Vine Maple Trail, which runs east from the 10600 block of 240th Street to McClure Lane, in the Maple Crest sub-division.
On Nov. 7, a man wearing a balaclava grabbed the woman in her 20s from behind on a trail that leads from Zeron Avenue to the 10600-block of 240th Street.
Police said both attacks are similar and are asking women to avoid walking or jogging alone.
