Fill application approved for business park

Pitt Meadows will allow the developer of Golden Ears Business Centre to truck structural fill to the site.

The property at 19265 Airport Way needs to be raised to meet the city’s 5.33-metre flood construction elevation as the park continues to expand.

The Onni Group of Companies needs to remove of an estimated 369,600 m3 of peat and replace it with approximately 567,000 m3 of structural fill on the 19.6 hectare (48.43 acre) site.

For financial reasons, Onni is seeking permission to truck the fill rather than use dredged sand.

Council supported the fill application, but imposed several conditions on it.

The haul route will be restricted to Airport Way and Golden Ears Way. Onni will have to construct a paved driveway north of Airport Way that leads to a wheel wash and gravel access road.

The road will be swept daily and activity within 200 metres of homes will be restricted to the hours between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Since it opened in 2010, the Golden Ears Business Centre has attracted 22 business and 375 jobs. Plans are under way for the construction of another 365, 000 square foot building. A company from Burnaby will also be relocating to the park, bringing 75 jobs with the move.
