Turn out lights again for Earth Hour
Earth Hour, the annual energy conservation event during which people turn out their lights for one hour, takes place this Saturday.
B.C. Hydro is encouraging people to turn out lights between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. to support promote conservation and climate change.
Last year, the District of Maple Ridge saw a drop of 2.5 per cent in the community electricity load, a 39 per cent improvement over the 2012 results.
Pitt Meadows reduced consumption by 2.7 per cent, surpassing the provincial average of 1.96 per cent.
Maple Ridge will again be turning off lights in the district’s corporate buildings as part of this year’s event.
Hosted by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour takes place in 7,000 cities across 152 countries around the world.
