New Pitt Meadows CAO named

The City of Pitt Meadows has picked a familiar face to lead its staff.

The city’s former director of operations, Kim Grout, was appointed to the position last week after being picked by a selection committee.

The city received 64 applications for the position from all over the world.

Grout had been acting CAO since the departure of her predecessor Jake Rudolph last October.

Rudolph left to take a new job as the deputy city manager for Abbotsford.

Grout has been working with the city for the past decade, but her family’s roots go back to its founding days.

Grout is a descendent of William James Park, a former reeve, who was instrumental in establishing Pitt Meadows as a municipality and pushed for its separation from Maple Ridge.

‘Greenest’ people

The City of Pitt Meadows handed out four Green Star Awards last week.

Now in its fifth year, the awards recognize businesses and members of the community for their roles in implementing and encouraging green practices within the city.

• Resident Award:  Jamie Whitford won for awareness and advocacy, working with Scouts Canada to restore waterways and plant trees.

• Business: Pitt Meadows Regional Airport for a greener solution for cutting a 155 acre field.

• Euro Rite Cabinets for waste reduction and recyclable packaging.

• Community group:

• The Alouette Field Naturalists have been keeping an eye on bird and animal habitat since 1972.
