Armed man robs Pitt Meadows Superstore on Canada Day

An armed man made off with a loot of cash after robbing a Pitt Meadows grocery store on Canada Day.

Ridge Meadows RCMP were called to the Real Canadian Superstore in Meadowtown Centre around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday after two female employees were threatened by a thief. The store was closed when the robbery took place but police said the doors may still have been open as the man did not break in.

The man ordered the employees into an office that contained the store’s safe and forced the women to open it. He fled with an unknown amount of money.

“This brazen robbery has certainly alarmed and traumatized the two employees of the store," said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

Investigators believe the robbery took place just before 11:30 p.m.

The suspect is described as a man in his 40s, who is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with a heavy build.  He was wearing an orange hooded sweater, blue jeans and light blue running shoes with silver lines.  Police believe the man got onto a mountain bike and rode east through the parking lot.
