Hammond treatment centre proposed

Old lodge would be torn down, replaced in two phases

Maple Ridge council considered first reading of a new, two-storey, 41-bed drug and alcohol treatment centre in Hammond, at 20581 Maple Cres., Tuesday.

The project is a joint venture between B.C. Housing and the Innervisions Recovery Society, with partial funding provided by the federal government’s Homelessness Partnering Strategy, says a staff report.

Innervisions already operates two other treatment centres, one in Port Coquitlam and a second, Hannah House, in Maple Ridge, at the corner of Dewdney Trunk Road and Laity Street.

It already operates the Maple Crescent Lodge in the old building that’s currently on the property. That old building, though, is infringing on the 206th Street right of way.

If approved, the project would mean taking down the old lodge.

Phase 1 would involve building the kitchen, dining room and 17 beds. The second phase would see addition of 24 more beds.

According to the official community plan, there’s a shortage of special needs housing in the district, with waiting lists for social housing, transition housing and shelter beds.

Hannah House has 44 beds along with a kitchen, common room, counselling rooms and outdoor space where women stay on two-month-long treatment programs.
