Moving to Langley City, Pitt Meadows or Richmond is the best bet to get a home built quickly in the Lower Mainland, according to a Fraser Institute report released Thursday.

Langley City scored top marks with only a 1.6 month wait time for home building approval. Cross over the border into Langley Township and you’ll wait 14.8 months, according to report.

Delta, Maple Ridge and Chilliwack scored near the average of 10.2 months for a Lower Mainland municipality to approve a home build.

On the faster end of the scale, Pitt Meadows and the District of Kent/Agassiz scored just behind Langley City with better than average with wait times of 5.4 months and 7.3 months, respectively.

Uncertainty over the timeline of building approval drove up times in White Rock, Mission, Maple Ridge and Surrey. Homebuilders complained of high regulatory costs in Surrey and Langley Township while those in Abbotsford spoke out against the rezoning requirements for multiple unit dwellings.
