Take a break for an hour this Saturday night

Pitt Meadows relying on social media to get out the message about Earth Hour

There’s Earth Hour and Earth Day, and the City of Pitt Meadows is focusing on the latter, but it doesn’t want you to forget about the hour, which takes place this Saturday, March 24.

Earth Hour is when people around the world voluntarily turn off their lights for an hour, to show their concern for the environment and energy conservation.

That happens this Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

However, the hour seems to be dimming in recent years. The Earth Hour website lists only two locations in Vancouver where Earth Hour activities take place.

While Pitt Meadows focuses on Earth Day, there are also no scheduled events for Earth Hour in Maple Ridge.

The City of Pitt Meadows 2018 Earth Day celebration will be held on April 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the City’s Spirit Square next to City Hall at 12007 Harris Rd.

In Maple Ridge, Earth Day takes place April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Memorial Peace Park.

Some ideas for Earth Hour include having candle-lit dinner, stargazing, or simply switching off lights for an hour.
