STRAKER, Doug
It is with sorrow and a measure of relief, that we announce the passing of Douglas (Doug) Eivend Straker, loving Husband, Father and Papa. Born Sept. 22, 1950, Doug passed away in the early morning hours of July 12, 2010, from the unforgiving disease of ALS.
Doug is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen (Reed), his sons Jeff (Amber) and Peter (Andrea) and his grandchildren Danika, Taylor, Victoria, Nicholas and Lucia. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Pat) and his mother-in-law, Monica Reed. Doug will be fondly remembered by his large extended family and his wonderful friends. Doug was predeseased by his parents, Alex and Molly Straker, and his older brother, Richard. Doug enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. There is no funeral at Doug’s request but in honour of his love of sports, the family would like to invite you to a Tailgate Party on Saturday July 24th, 2010, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at Albion Community Hall, north on 240th Street at Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge. Please join us in wearing your favourite sports apparel. The family would like to thank the staff at McKenney Creek Hospice for their kind care and attention to Doug. It was like he was at his own “Club Med”. No flowers by request, but donations in Doug’s memory to the ALS Society of BC, #208 - 1600 W 6th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V6J 1R3, would be gratefully appreciated.
