Edward Herndier

Passed away peacefully as God called him with his family by his side on November 3, 2007. Ed was born June 9 1922 in Lemberg, Sask. He was a WW II veteran serving his country for 4 years overseas. In 1946 he moved to Vancouver and met the love of his life, Bertha in the spring of 1947. They were married on November 1, 1947 living in Vancouver for 9 years, moving to Port Coquitlam in 1957, where they built their home and resided there for 37 years. Ed retired from the Coquitlam School District in 1987 after 18 years of service. In 1994 Ed and Bertha moved to Maple Ridge. Ed enjoyed spending his time at bowling lanes, the casino, playing bingo and at the legion where he was a member for 50 years. He just loved his Vancouver Canucks. Ed’s health began to fail him in 2004 and as day to day things became more difficult to manage he was admitted to the Ridge Meadows Hospital in late March 2007 where he received exceptional care until his passing. Ed and Bertha celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 1, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife Bertha, son Stan (Norma) 2 daughters Donna (Rick), Val (Vito), grand children Kevin, Randi, Hayley, Michael and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Wilfred. Ed was one of the original founding members and an active member of Hope Lutheran Church, 3151 York St., Port Coquitlam where a Memorial Service will be held on Sat. November 10, 2007 at 1100am with Pastor Ron Towriss officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation
