May 13, 2010

LOBSINGER, Eleanor

Died in Maple Ridge on Thursday, May 13 at the age of 90. She was born in Vancouver on August 30, 1919, the second youngest of 6 children. In school “Sparkie” loved basketball and baseball. Soon after the war Eleanor took her young family to Alert Bay where she got started in the restaurant business. She cooked in a small logging camp, co-owned a restaurant-bakery in Sointula, and for many years, owned the Cottage Coffee Shop near First and Commercial in Vancouver. She concluded her working career in the spinal care injury unit at Shawnessy Hospital. Eleanor and Lorne retired to the then new Fraserview Village in Maple Ridge where they enjoyed an active retirement. Eleanor loved Maple Ridge and greatly enjoyed her friends and neighbours at Fraserview, the Senior Centre, and at St John’s Church. Eleanor left four children, five grand children, five great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.

We will miss her greatly.

The wonderful care and attention given to Eleanor by her friends, Fraser Health home care staff, McKenney Creek Hospice staff, and by Dr. DeKlerk is greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 25 at 11:00 in St. John’s Anglican Church at Laity and River Road. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may donate to Canadian Cancer Society, McKenney Creek Hospice, or another charity of their choosing.
