MORTIMER, Ernest James

July 3, 1921 - Oct. 19, 2010

Son of William A. and Annie Christina Mortimer passed away peacefully on October 19, 2010. Ernie is survived by his sister Doris (Howard) Henry and his daughter Sandra Jean, other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Betty (mother of Sandie), second wife Mary and eights brothers and sisters. Born in South Westminster, Ernie graduated from T.J. Trapp Technical School and began working in the electrical trade. Ernie was proud to be a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, stationed in Victoria until his honourable discharge. He was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian legion Maple Ridge Branch 88; a member of the IBEW Local 213 and served as president of the E.I.A. from 1981 - 1982. He was an electrical inspector for the District of Burnaby from July 1973 until his retirement in August 1986. Ernie enjoyed travelling and photography and after his retirement became active as a volunteer visitor for the Legion and doing maintenance for the District of Maple Ridge. He also participated in fundraising for the MS Society and supported numerous charities. Ernie's family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of Ridge Meadows Hospital and also to the staff of George Derby Centre where Ernie spent his last months, for their compassionate care. It was Ernie's wish to be cremated. The service will take place Saturday, November 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Cariboo Hill Temple, 7195 Cariboo Road, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ernie's name to the charity of your choice.
