AICKEN, Frank Porter
Sept 6, 1915 ~ Aug 4, 2010
We have lost a friend
and a mentor -
Frank Porter Aicken ended his rich and wonderful life peacefully at home, where he enjoyed the company of family and friends - right up until the end. Frank was predeceased by Audrey (Jones), his wife of nearly 70 years; father (John) and mother (Mary Anne); brothers Hugh, John, Homer and Alex - sisters Elizabeth (Bessie Gibson) and Ethel (Kozoris): and is missed by many loving nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren.
The family immigrated from Newtonards, Ireland, and started a homestead in Stewart Lake, Manitoba, where Frank was born. They moved to Vancouver, and after serving in the army during WWII he resumed his career as a builder, working mostly with his father and brothers. They built many homes throughout Greater Vancouver; started Sperling (now Curtis) Lumber in the 50's; and built subdivisions in Kamloops. Being an astute business man, he was able to retire early. He was then free to enjoy hunting, fishing, farming and the company of others. Respect for people, and willingness to help, was a lifelong Aicken trademark. Frank was a humble, kind, gentle person, full of humour and a never faltering belief that all was well.
Thank you Frank -
you are loved and missed.
