KLASSEN, Herman John

Feb 12, 1930 ~ Nov 21, 2010

Herman passed away peacefully at Maple Ridge Seniors Village in the company of his family. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of 55 years, Claire, his son David Klassen (Ellen), daughter Yvonne McDonough (Ron), son Randal Klassen (Joyce), and daughter Jeannette Reid (Sheldon), as well as his grandchildren Kevin, Rowan, Ty, Abram, Ezra, Molly, Darcie, Mehgan, Aimee, Casey and great grandchildren Soren and Deja. He is also survived by his two sisters, Edna Ryan and Marie Ortwein (Del) and many many neices and nephews.

Herman will be remembered as a good husband and father with a wicked sense of humour and an unforgetable grin. He was a handyman extraordinaire, a pool shark, a world traveller and a collector of nuts and bolts.

In the years of his working life Herman worked in Alberta, Yukon and B.C., doing whatever work was available. This included time as a Hard Rock Miner and working on the official breakthrough crew for the Kemano tunnel project in 1954. He worked at Alcan Aluminium Smelter in Kitimat B.C. for 31 years and retired to Maple Ridge B.C. in 1985. For the most part his retirement years were spent enjoying the things he loved the most, gardening and working around his acreage and spending time with his family.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday November 28th 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at Thornhill Hall, 26007 - 98th Ave, Maple Ridge B.C.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maple Ridge Seniors Village and Ridge Meadows Hospital for their thoughtful care of Herman.

In lieu of flowers, doantions can be made to the British Columbia Parkinson Society.
