It is with great sadness thatwe announce the passing of Joyce Hignett on May 31, 2010. Joyce was born on September 6, 1928 in Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Cliff Hignett, and her precious great grandchild Colin. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Heather and Gord Ward, Fay and Bobby Bruns, and Grace and Myron Peterson; her grandchildren Leah and Russ Brummer, Mike Ward, Jason and Evey Holt, Cindy Peterson, and Joyce and Rick Glasel; and great grandchildren Amanda, Jeff, Brendon, Sandy, Amy, Jodi and Morgan. Joyce grew up on McNabs Island near Halifax, Nova Scotia in a large family. Her father was keeper of the lighthouse. Her future husband Cliff Hignett, met Joyce while visiting the island while serving in the Navy during World War II. After moving to Saskatchewan and experiencing farm life for three years they made their way to Maple Ridge where they lived ever since. Joyce was well known for her sewing abilities and taught sewing for a number of years. Joyce and Cliff frequently attended their daughters’ and grandchildren’s baseball and hockey games, and were loved and respected by everyone on the teams. Joyce’s kind and charming manner, along with a pinch of mischief, touched countless hearts and formed loving bonds that spanned decades. Her sweetness will be greatly missed.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 12 noon at the MAPLE RIDGE FUNERAL CHAPEL (Osborn’s) 11969 – 216th Street Maple Ridge. Rev. Bob Goos officiating. Interment following at the Maple Ridge Cemetery.
