VERMEULE

Dec. 20, 1937 ~ July 10, 2009

Born 20 December 1937 in southern England Joyce always had a love for travel. After emigrating to Canada in 1968 she lived in Saskatchewan and Alberta before moving to BC in 1973. Joyce had a passion for life and a compassion for people. She was always willing to lend an ear and offer advice. Joyce was also a talented artist who created many wonderful paintings for her family and friends. Her family was the most important thing to her and her love for her daughter, Andrea, was unconditional.

After a long history of heart disease Joyce was diagnosed with A.L.S. and embarked on the biggest challenge of her life. Even as she was physically restricted she continued to be an inspiration to everyone around her. The family would like to give a special thank you to the ambulance drivers, emergency room staff and the nurses in I.C.U. at Chilliwack General Hospital who all made this difficult time just a little easier. Words cannot express our gratitude to the people who helped care for Joyce during her illness, especially Tammy Gadon who she came to depend on as a friend as well as a caregiver.

Survived by her sister Jenny Depledge (England) daughter Andrea Pleadwell (Chilliwack), son David Vermeule (Vancouver), grand-daughters Jeanette Watson (Scotland), Stephanie Celaj (Surrey), great-grand-children Eric Vermeule, Ayden Blum, Sophia Blum (Scotland), Soriea Celaj (Surrey) and the love of her life and guardian angel, Art VandenEykel (Mission), Joyce went Home to Heaven after a courageous fight on Friday July 10th 2009. A celebration of her life will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford on Thursday 16 July 2009 at 2:00 pm.

Although now out of sight she will be forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the A.L.S. Society would be greatly appreciated.
