Patricia Ilene Hodson (nee Raftery), our beloved mother and friend passed away on Dec. 9, 2009. Her passing was sudden, yet serene, comforted by the presence of her children at her side. Born on June 15, 1924 in Vancouver she witnessed many historic events in her 85 years of life. As a young child, she grew up during the great depression, and often told stories about the many privations people endured during those long years. Later on, when she should have been dancing or enjoying her youthful freedom, she watched friends and neighbours trudge off to Europe, and to war. After the fall of Germany and Japan, she married her lifelong companion Rupert Barklie, "Budge" Hodson, who predeceased her in 1986. Over the course of many years together, they had four children, Darragh, Brian (Sharon), Jennifer (Bob), and Bill. She was also blessed with three grandchildren, Joshua, Michael and Kirby. Her three sisters, Irene, Sheila and Doreen were a special part of her life. All will miss her very much. A memorial service will be held on Saturday Dec. 19, at 1 pm, at Hammond United Church, 11391 Dartford Street in Maple Ridge.
