HAMMING ~ Peter
February 8th, 1918 ~ October 27th, 2007
Peter (Petrus) Hamming of Maple Ridge, B.C., won his courageous battle over pain and went to meet his Lord and Saviour on October 27th, 2007.
Peter was born on February 8th, 1918 in Grootegast, Netherlands, and on August 22nd, 1945 he married Jeltje (Jane) Burgler. In June 1950, Peter and Jane along with their three sons immigrated to Canada. They eventually settled in Pitt Meadows where Peter could continue his life long passion as a dairy farmer.
He leaves behind eight children, Martin (Ann) Hamming, Walter (Peggy) Hamming, Martha (Bill) Heimstra, Henrietta (Roger) Pannett, Gertie (Jim) Guillaume, Grace (Gerry) Kosicki, Tena (Bob) Barclay and Diane (Harry) Prinsen; 27 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Peter is also survived by two brothers, Wiebrand and Ite and five sisters, Griet (Grace) Ritzema, Aukje (Agnes) Korf, Egberdina (Dien) Ritzema, Martje (Margie) Helmus, and Assalina (Lien) Meischke. Peter was predeceased by Jane, his wife of 61 years (2006), his son Cor Hamming (2004), daughter-in-law Mickie Hamming (2004), and brother Wolter Hamming (1953).
His walk with Christ was not only an inspiration to his family but also a blessing to anyone fortunate enough to know him. He will live on forever in their hearts and memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Vancouver General Hospital in memory of his son Cornelius Hamming. The family wishes to thank the kind staff of Emerald Building at Elim Village, the doctors and nurses of Surrey Memorial Hospital as well as the nurses, caregivers and volunteers at the Shirley Dean Pavilion/ Hospice Society for all their care and concern during their dad’s stay.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 5th at the Maple Ridge Christian Reformed Church, 20245 Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge, B.C.
