Roy HYND

June 8, 2017

HYND, Roy Francis

April 8th 1952 - June 8th 2017

Roy Hynd passed away suddenly in China on Thursday, June 8th, at the age of 65, after a yearlong battle with illness. Always a fighter until the end, he was looking at all possible ways to defeat the disease he was facing, and passed head held high knowing he did everything he could, and while the disease killed him, it did not beat him.

Husband, father, friend, coach, world traveller, sports enthusiast, pet lover; there are many words which can be used to describe Roy, and all were accurate. Passion and pride for his family and in life was an ideal he strived for every single day.

His greatest pride and joy was his family, his wife Marian, and his children Andrew and Megan. He took joy in all they achieved; sports, academics, careers, and supported them in every endeavour they took on. His greatest love was for Marian, and his simplest love was to be there for his children. He would be seen in the crowd, on the sidelines watching whatever they were partaking in, whether it be dancing, football and soccer.

He has been described in life, and now after, as personable, genial and a good man. Everyone that met Roy liked him, enjoyed chatting with him, be it the daily weather to his love for sports teams like the New Orleans Saints and Brighton Hove and Albion soccer club in England, in which he was delighted by their recent promotion to the Premier League in the weeks before his death.

All who knew him, either late in his life, or throughout, will feel his loss. He made a difference to all he knew, be it an athlete on a soccer team he coached, a co-worker at the office or a customer he worked with over his forty years in the Mining Chemical import industry, with Mackenzie and Feimann/Quadra Chemical and the last eight years with Aslchem International. Customers all over South America, North America, Oceania and Asia who worked with him for decades and appreciated his professionalism and kindness will miss him.

Predeceased by parents Jim and Pia Hynd, Marian’s parents Bill and Verna Benjamin and nephew Mark. Roy is survived by wife of forty years, Marian, son, Andrew and daughter, Megan. Surviving family members include dearest sister in law, Nancy Merry, her husband, Don and sons, Matt and Donald Jr. Brother in law, Dave Benjamin (Jen) and his children, Michael, Joel and Tasha. Cousins, Joe Valentinuzzi, Amanda Bond and Rory Bond as well as numerous family members all over Canada, Scotland, England, and Italy. He will also be missed by close friend, Ed Au who was with Roy until the end, helping him fight the battle against the disease, and who supported Marian in China following Roy’s passing. His family is eternally grateful to Ed.

Memorial service to be held at 1 PM on Friday June 16th at the Golden Ears United Church, 22165 Dewdney Trunk Rd, Maple Ridge, BC, V2X 3H7. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roy’s name to Canucks Place or a charity of your own choice.
