NEWBERY, Shirley Beatrice

Sadly Shirley Beatrice Newbery passed away at Ridge Meadows Hospital on Saturday, July 11, 2009 after a four year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley is survived by her nine children: Robin, Patrick(Leslie), Scott(Brenda), Melanie, Naomi, Jerry, Jim, April(Dave) and Donna(Al); twenty grandchildren (Alexandra, Brett, Bryanne, Tyler, Brandon, Natasha, Nicole, Nicholas, Karli, Christopher, Beth, Emily, Koale, Cam, Thomas, Michelle, Curtis, Danny, Mark, Melanie) and eight great-grandchildren (Justice, Trayl, Mason, Cameron, Havannah, Katelin, Darren, Shyanne).

Mom was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and has lived locally since 1960. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim Newbery, in 1978.

Shirley was always proud of her many children and all her grandchildren, keeping up with all their accomplishments and sharing their news with the family members. Mom devoted her life to raising her children and keeping her family together.

In recent years, Shirley volunteered her time and energy by knitting many dozens of warm sweaters, toques, scarves and blankets for the children of Cytheria House in Maple Ridge and Shiloh Place in New Westminster.

Mom will be remembered for her independence and feisty spirit and during her trials she was courageous and without complaint. She will be sadly missed and never forgotten. Rest in Peace, Mom.

Our family would like to send a very special thanks to Dr. Greg Kotylak, Dr. Do and Dr, Shellenberg as well as the staff of Ridge Meadows Hospital for their compassion and caring support.

At Shirley's request, there will be no service.

“The hours are all too short today

For all I want to tell you,

Could I talk the whole year through,

I’d Only say: “I love you.”
