WILFRED AUSTIN KING

Born June 29, 1923 in Port Haney, passed away Friday, March 4, 2005 in Ridge Meadows Hospital after a long and valiant fight with heart disease. Predeceased by his wife Clarice, his brother Maurice, his sisters; Marjorie and Phyllis. Survived by his wife Doreen, his daughters; Lorraine (Gordon), Diane (Ken), and Carolyn (Neil), three grandchildren; Kendall, Brandon and Allison.

A life long resident of the Maple Ridge area, son of a pioneer family. Life member of the Canadian Legion Branch #88, a veteran of the R.C.A.F., served overseas from 1942 – 1945. He retired from the Hammond Mill after 38 years of service, as project manager. He was involved for many years as a board member of the figure skating club, coach of softball teams, an avid gardener, wine maker, hockey fan – a father, husband and grandfather extraordinaire. His knowledge and facts of local history was amazing. In his retirement he enjoyed travel and cruising, fishing, gardening, and most of all his family and friends. Service will be held Friday, March 11, 2005 at 2p.m., St. Andrews Haney United Church, 22165 Dewdney Trunk Rd. in Maple Ridge. Reception Following. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made to the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation.
