OLIVER, William Albert

September 20, 1930 - October 26, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Oliver, who died peacefully on October 26, 2009 in Ridge Meadows Hospital after a lengthy hospitalization. Bill is deeply missed by his loving wife Betty of Maple Ridge, his son Albert and wife Nancy Oliver of Dubai, UAE, his daughter Ann and husband Kim, and grandsons Kirk and Luke Wilenius of Nipomo, California. Bill is also survived by his brother, Douglas Oliver, of Sussex, England, his two sisters, Barbara Russell of Victoria, Patricia Fecho of Calgary, Alberta and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was born in Hanna, Alberta on September 20, 1930. He was the third child of Lawrence and Annie Oliver. As a young man, Bill headed west to Princeton, B.C. It was there that he met the love of his life, Betty. They were married in 1952 and together celebrated 57 years of marriage. Bill was employed by Granby Mining Company for many years and in 1960 moved to Maple Ridge, B.C., where he worked for Haney Brick and Tile Company until his retirement. Bill loved to hunt and fish in the interior of B.C. He loved all sports especially hockey. Bill had a great appreciation of nature and with his green thumb created his beautiful flower garden every spring and summer. Bill was a patient man with a wonderful sense of humour who will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He was a devoted son and husband, wonderful father and grandfather, caring brother and cherished friend. Bill will be dearly missed by all.

Bill's family wish to thank Dr. John Martyn, Dr. Gary Cuddington and the wonderful staff of Burnaby Hospital ICU/CCU, Dr. Winston Tsui and the staff of Ridge Meadows Hospital ICU for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Dr. Ken Burns of Maple Ridge.
