Think long and hard about Albion flats land swap

Editor, The News:

Re: Country Fest is OK with moving (The News, June 20).

I am truly perplexed as to why council is considering more shopping centres in Maple Ridge.

Wal-Mart is being built in Mission, and another is just over the bridge in Port Coquitlam. Zellers will be a Target soon. We have more grocery stores than you can shake a stick at, and fast food outlets of every variety. Cinemas, craft stores, clothing stores, do-it-yourself stores, car repair garages, leisure centres, and salons for every part of your body, it’s all here. And the Kwantlen reserve is being developed as retail.

A land swap? Why is this being considered?  If the land is in the ALR, it cannot be developed.

Our fairgrounds, which, are in a pastoral area, give the true feel of a country fair.

Please, council, think long and hard about considering even more retail development.
