Time to give animal abusers jail time
Editor, The News:
I am the proud father of Trooper the emaciated dog that was in the headlines a few years ago because of the awful abuse he was subjected to by his previous family.
Trooper has become a wonderful and loving family member after rebounding from a horrific past.
Recently, I read a story about a German shepherd named Captain who was grossly abused and thrown away like trash and died from his injuries.
What sort of society do we live in where these cowards are allowed to beat and kill defenceless animals with impunity?
Our government needs to work in conjunction with the B.C. government, SPCA and other animal welfare departments to put forth legislation that has teeth so these creeps can face real jail time that will act as a deterrent for other sick people who punish animals for their own warped enjoyment.
If our government can impose a new tax in record time, why can't it streamline legislation to hit these cowards hard and put them in general population where they will become the prey?
