Don’t cut Maple Ridge bus route C-48

Editor, The News:

Re: Rural bus routes in jeopardy (The News, Oct. 26).

It is evident to me that TransLink has sunk to all-time low with proposed cuts, including the elimination of Route C-48 along River Road.

This affects some of our most vulnerable citizens, special needs people who rely on the route to get to their daily jobs at the recycling plant.  Their work there is important, not only to them, but the citizens of Maple Ridge. They do a hell of a job and look forward to it, a purpose in this life.

If the powers that be decide to pull it, why not consider putting in the Handy Dart to fill the void.

These people need to get to work.  I know of one instance where Handy Dart picks up a lady in White Rock and transports her here to Maple Ridge and waits while she has her appointment, then transports her back.

If the dart can’t make it, she comes by taxi.

It absolutely floors me that TransLink can afford this and yet cut the C-48 route.
