Greater heights and deeper roots, what and where?

Editor, The News:

Re: The determination to keep cycling (Cycling, Jan. 11).

Of course my tongue is firmly planted into my cheek when commenting on  the article by Jackie Chow regarding cycling.

Maple Ridge offers plenty of opportunities for cycling. There are designated cycling paths. Images of bicycles are painted all over various roads.

Unfortunately, vehicle parking is allowed on these places. In order to protect bicyclists, this municipality allows cycling on the sidewalks. This puts pedestrians at risk as some cyclists, thinking they  now have priority, force  people aside, including seniors, with  their various ambulatory devices, into traffic or onto private property.

Of course there is the risk of meeting people performing recycling by dumpster-diving early in the morning or late at night. All this in a municipality that has a coat of arms and a motto: Greater heights and deeper roots.

Of what and leading where?
